Libellen fotographieren
Allgemeines
Libellen werden von manchen als "Edelsteine der Lüfte" bezeichnet. Viele von ihnen sehen schön aus - die Prachtlibellen, Smaragdlibellen, Königslibellen und wie sie alle heißen. Sie sind tolle Flugkünstler, die nicht nur sehr schnell fliegen können (bis 50 km/h), sondern auch in der Luft stehen bleiben oder auch auf der Stelle drehen können.
Ihr Aussehen, ihre Flugkünste, die feine Struktur íhrer Flügel machen sie zu einem faszinierenden Fotomotiv.
Vorweg sollen aber noch 2 Fakten erwähnt werden:
- Libellen sind harmlos. Sie können nicht stechen und ein eventueller Biß, der aus Angst erfolgt, ist nicht schmerzhaft.
- Libellen stehen unter Schutz. Sie dürfen nicht gefangen, verletzt oder gar getötet werden.
Wie andere Wildtiere auch, haben Libellen eine Fluchtdistanz. Dabei reagieren sie auf Bewegung. Deshalb sollten schnelle Bewegungen, auch mit der Kamera, vermieden werden. Bewegt man sich langsam auf sie zu, besteht die Möglichkeit, sich ihnen auf 1m oder noch dichter zu nähern.
Die Ausrüstung
Mit heutigen Digitalkameras ist es relativ einfach, Libellen zu fotographieren. Auch wenn häufig Spiegelreflexkameras oder spiegellose Systemkameras eingesetzt werden, lassen sich auch mich Bridgekameras oder sogar einfacheren Kompaktkameras gute Aufnahmen machen.
Wer Libellen fotographieren möchte, denkt zunächst an ein Makroobjektiv. Bei der Auswahl ist eines zu beachten: Libellen haben - wie alle anderen Tiere auch - eine Fluchtdistanz. das heißt, daß sie flüchten, wenn wir ihnen zu nahekommen. Wie groß diese Distanz ist, hängt von mehreren Faktoren ab und kann nur ausgetestet werden.
Ein Makroobjektiv sollte deshalb eine längere Brennweite haben. Mit Objektiven ab 100mm ist man gut bedient. Wichtig ist die Geschwindigkeit des Autofokus, wenn fliegende Insekten fotographiert werden sollen, da manche ziemlich flott unterwegs sind.
Zu den Makroobjektiven gibt es aber eine Alternative: Teleobjektive. 300mm Brennweite, 600mm oder (mit Telekonverter) auch mehr. Eine längere Brennweite bringt eine stärkere Vergrößerung, verringert aber auch die Schärfentiefe.
Trotzdem hat eine längere Brennweite 2 Vorteile:
- Der Abstand zur Libelle (oder generell zum Tier) ist größer und verringert den Fluchtreflex.
- Oft genug ist die Libelle gar nicht erreichbar, da sie sich in einem Bereich befindet, der nicht zugänglich ist.
Reicht die Naheinstellgrenze nicht aus, so können noch Zwischenringe eingesetzt werden.
Werden längere Brennweiten eingesetzt, so kann es interessant sein, mit einem Stativ zu arbeiten, um Erschütterungen zu verhindern. Allerdings haben heutige Kameras eine gute Bildstabilisierung, sodaß auch bei Brennweiten von 400mm oder länger noch gut ohne Stativ gearbeitet werden. Zur Not besteht oft genug auch die Möglichkeit, die Kamera mit Stativ aufzulegen oder gegen einen Baum zu klemmen.
Ruhende Libellen
Ein Teil der Libellen sind "Ansitzjäger", das heißt, sie jagen ihre Beute von einem festen Platz aus und kehren immer wieder zurück. Das sind zum Beispiel die Gebänderte Prachtlibelle, der Vierfleck oder auch der Große Blaupfeil. Diese sieht man häufig auf Zweigen oder auch auf dem Boden sitzen. Bei diesen Aufnahmen arbeite ich meistens mit einem Teleobjektiv, um Abstand zu den Tieren zu haben und sie nicht zu verscheuchen. Brennweiten ab 100mm sind hier interessant, Ich setze - je nach Entfernung durchaus auch 600m oder 840m ein... Hier muß dann berücksichtigt werden, daß eine längere Brennweite zu einer kleineren Schärfentiefe führt.
Beim Autofokus gehe ich auf einen Sensorpunkt oder maximal einen Block von neun Punkten, damit keine Störelemente den Autofokus verwirren.
Belichtungszeit und Blende hängen von der Brennweite ab. Bei einer Brennweite von 600mm stelle ich für die Belichtungszeit 1/800 s ein, meistens bei Blende 11. Der ISO-Wert wird von der Kamera eingestellt, was bei der Canon EOS 5D III relativ gut geht.
In der Regel arbeite ich im Serienmodus, daß heißt ich mache mehrere Aufnahmen direkt hintereinander. Dadurch lassen sich auch bei Etwas windigeren Bedingungen oder wenn die Libelle zu einem Flug startet noch Aufnahmen machen.
